Palo Alto Prisma AIRS alternatives

Prisma AIRS is a strong, broad platform. Teams look past it for a different shape: lower cost, published pricing, agent-first testing, or compliance evidence it does not publish.

Six alternatives grouped by the reason you are shopping, each sourced and dated. We make one of them, so this page is explicit about where Prisma AIRS is the better choice.

What to look for in an alternative

Before shortlisting, be clear about why Prisma AIRS is not the answer for you, because the alternatives split along those lines rather than being uniformly better or cheaper.

Cost + no sales cycle
Prisma AIRS is quote-based and enterprise-shaped. Want to start today on a published tier? Open source or RedLens.
Not a Palo Alto shop
Much of its value is integration with the Palo Alto stack. If you do not run it, you pay for an ecosystem you will not use.
Agent-first testing
Targeting multi-agent systems or MCP? Check each tool's agentic depth directly; it is where they differ most.
Compliance evidence
Output has to satisfy a privacy officer or auditor? You want graded, exportable findings mapped to the right control sets.

What Prisma AIRS does well

Prisma AIRS is Palo Alto Networks' AI security platform, built partly on the Protect AI technology Palo Alto acquired in 2025. Its red teaming is a shipping product, not a consulting engagement: a Dynamic Red Teaming Agent and attack library that test LLMs, LLM applications and agent behaviour, including whether an agent executes a task it was not designed to do or produces off-brand output. A January 2026 update added an AI-generated risk summary in the scan report and brand-reputation risk detection. It reaches internal models without opening inbound ports, and pairs red teaming with model and supply-chain scanning and AI runtime security across the Palo Alto stack.

Be fair about it

If you are already a Palo Alto shop and want one vendor across network, cloud and AI, that integration is a real advantage. Independent reviewers note the agent control plane was still maturing through 2026 and that the product leans on the broader Palo Alto ecosystem, so it is heaviest for a small team that only wants to test one agent.

Alternatives at a glance

What each alternative leads on, and how it is priced. All pricing is the vendor's current public position as of 18 October 2026; where it is not public, the table says so rather than guessing.

The alternatives in detail

Horizontal platform

HiddenLayer

The closest peer on breadth. Its AISec Platform leads on model-file scanning across 35+ formats (backdoors, trojans, serialization exploits) and has a federal and defense track record; it also includes automated red teaming and runtime detection. Sold direct and through the AWS and Azure marketplaces. Pick it if model-file scanning is the job.

Horizontal platform

Mindgard

Independent, focused on continuous, attacker-aligned red teaming, often with consultants in the loop. Runs from a CLI or GitHub Action and markets a native Burp Suite integration. Quote-based, no public free tier. Pick it for managed, continuous offensive testing. See the full RedLens vs Mindgard comparison.

Runtime + testing

Lakera (Check Point)

Lakera Red stress-tests before deployment; Lakera Guard is a low-latency inline guard for production traffic. Acquired by Check Point (announced September 2025, reported around $300M). Pick it if you need an inline runtime guard as well as pre-deployment testing, which is not what Prisma AIRS red teaming or RedLens is for.

Runtime + testing

Cisco AI Defense (fka Robust Intelligence)

Algorithmic red teaming expanded in February 2026 to adaptive single and multi-turn testing of models and agents, with MCP scanning and agentic red teaming, paired with runtime guardrails. Pick it if you are standardised on Cisco security.

Open source

garak, PyRIT, Promptfoo, Giskard

Free frameworks you run yourself: garak (NVIDIA) for broad scanning, PyRIT (Microsoft) for adaptive multi-turn attacks, Promptfoo for CLI eval plus red teaming, Giskard for an open Python core with a paid Hub. Pick these if you have the engineering time and want no licence cost. See the full tools comparison.

Regulated-sector evidence

RedLens

RedLens is the vertical alternative. It runs real adversarial attacks across 6 categories and 22 methodologies and attaches a compliance evidence package to every finding, with citation-level HIPAA and FBI CJIS control mapping and evidence grading Prisma AIRS does not publish. It uses synthetic PHI and CJI so no real data enters a test, offers an on-premise option on Enterprise, and has published pricing: Free $0, Team $199/mo, Professional $8,000/mo, Enterprise from $150k/yr.

It is smaller than Prisma AIRS and does less: no model-file scanning, no inline guard, no DLP breadth, no FedRAMP or CJIS authorization. Its Runtime Guard finds and flags for review; it is not an inline guard. Best for a lean healthcare or law-enforcement team that needs findings a privacy officer or CJIS Systems Officer will accept as evidence.

When to stay with Prisma AIRS

If you are standardised on Palo Alto, want model and supply-chain scanning and AI runtime security from one vendor alongside red teaming, and have the budget for an enterprise contract, Prisma AIRS is a reasonable default and most alternatives here cover only part of that surface. The alternatives win on cost, on published pricing, on agent-first depth, or on regulated-sector evidence, not on breadth.

Frequently asked

What is Palo Alto Prisma AIRS?

Prisma AIRS is Palo Alto Networks' AI security platform. It combines a Dynamic Red Teaming Agent and an attack library with model and supply-chain scanning (from the acquired Protect AI technology) and AI runtime security, sold as part of the Palo Alto ecosystem through enterprise sales.

Does Prisma AIRS publish pricing?

No. As of October 2026 Palo Alto Networks does not publish list pricing for Prisma AIRS red teaming; it is quote-based through Palo Alto sales. Every platform alternative on this page is also quote-based; RedLens is the exception, with published tiers from $0.

What is the best Prisma AIRS alternative for a small or regulated team?

It depends on your job. For a lean healthcare or law-enforcement team that needs findings mapped to HIPAA or CJIS as evidence, RedLens offers published pricing from $0 and citation-level compliance mapping. For broad horizontal coverage, HiddenLayer or Mindgard are closer peers. For zero licence cost, garak, PyRIT or Promptfoo.
